Maybe you're not upset that democracy has been usurped and that the people are being denied their rightful vote. Maybe you think that it is okay to impose this tax because it is no big deal - it's just a few cents on twenty dollars. Well, perhaps you might want to take a little closer look at the bigger picture - take a look at the complete financial details of this bad deal because it truly does stink. Maybe that will be enough to spur you into action.

THE PROPOSED NEW TWINS STADIUM -- JUST WHAT DO TAXPAYERS GET FROM THIS?

No financial rights in naming the building

No ticket revenue
  No
suite license revenue
  No
concessions revenue
  No
advertising revenue
  No community ownership

No guarantee of affordable tickets
No reduced tax impact via user or ticket fees
No property taxes – the Twins pay no property tax on the stadium!
No significant payback if the team is sold (quickly fades to 0%)

No sales tax revenue from building materials, supplies and equipment
No sales tax revenue from tickets

No “other revenues derived from the ballpark”
No control over zoning or input on environmental issues

So, what does this actually mean? What do we really get for our tax money?

The public “invests” 3/4 of the cost of the stadium, yet receives NONE of the revenue!

The public is not protected from cost over-runs for the land purchase, site preparation, and infrastructure costs.

Once the bonds are sold to finance construction, we are locked into this tax for up to 30 years until the bonds are repaid – with no ability to repeal the tax.

In essence, YOU, the taxpayer, get to act as Carl Pohlad's personal checkbook.
You get to have your pocket picked without your permission to pay for a brand-new sports stadium.
Public tax money for a privately-held entertainment business.
Do you really find this to be acceptable?
